Almost all SAWA pumps are available with hermetically sealed magnetic couplings. These magnetic drive pumps are designed and manufactured in such a way that they can also be used for hygienic and sterile applications.
Advantages of magnetic drive pumps
Thanks to their hermetically sealed design, magnetic drive pumps are ideal for use with sensitive, toxic, flammable or environmentally hazardous media. The containment shell between the two magnetic coupling parts seals the pumped medium from the outside. A mechanical seal is therefore not required. As a result, the magnetic drive pumps are considerably more wear-resistant and therefore generally completely maintenance-free. Furthermore, the use of a sealing pressure system can be dispensed with.
Limitations
Due to the narrow gaps in the area of the SSiC bearings and the containment shell, solids-containing and highly viscous media can only be pumped to a limited extent. To ensure the design-related lubrication and heat dissipation, the minimum speed is limited to 750 rpm and the minimum pressure to 1 bar.
Possible applications
In ATEX zones: By separating the pump and the motor using a magnetic coupling, an additional flexible coupling can be dispensed with.
TA-Luft: The use of the hermetically sealed magnetic coupling means that toxic, TA-Luft-relevant media can be pumped without any problems. The pumps are also ideal for use with foul-smelling, highly volatile, flammable, high-purity or air-crystallizing media.
Hygienic and sterile applications: Magnetic drive pumps are suitable for cleaning in the CIP process and sterilization using SIP.
Monitoring options for magnetic drive pumps
Motor monitoring by means of PTC thermistors and/or protection of the current consumption
Temperature monitoring, e.g. on the containment shell using PT100
Dry-running protection by means of a liquid phantom in the suction line or level monitoring in the tank (inlet)
Monitoring of the delivery rate
Pressure monitoring
Vibration control
